Satish Kaushik Made These Iconic Characters Memorable With His Exceptional Acting in Hindi Movies

Satish Kaushik, born in 1956 in Mahendragarh, Haryana, developed a love for films during his childhood. He admired Mehmood and would often imitate his scenes at home. After completing his studies at Delhi’s Kirori Mal College, he pursued his passion for acting and enrolled in the National School of Drama. He then trained at the Film and Television Institute of India before moving to Mumbai to pursue his dreams.

Kaushik’s first role was a small part in Shekhar Kapur’s Masoom in 1983, where he also worked as an assistant director. He later wrote dialogues for the cult classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron Ko and went on to act in numerous films, as well as directing some cult movies.

One of Kaushik’s most iconic roles was Calendar in the film Mr India. His portrayal of the lovable chef stole everyone’s heart, including that of the kids in the film and the audience. Another memorable character he played was Chanda Mama in Mr and Mrs Khiladi. The camaraderie between Bhanja and Mama, as well as Mama’s “Geeli Geeli kissi,” still remains fresh in our minds.

Kaushik’s classic gangster avatar as Pappu Pager in films such as Deewana Mastana and Hum Kisise Kum Nahin was also memorable. His unique style of insulting his enemies with curses like “Tamatar ke akhiri daane” and “dhoodh ke fatele hisse” added to the humor of the films.

In Saajan Chalen Sasural, Satish Kaushik portrayed Muthuswami, a South Indian musician who becomes Govinda’s friend. He also played the role of Kanshiram, a servant working at Anupam Kher’s shop, in the multistarrer film Ram Lakhan, showcasing his comic timing and unique style.

Kaushik’s other notable roles include Mohan in Kyunki Main Jhooth Nahi Bolta, where he played Govinda’s loyal friend, and Harpal “Happy” Singh in Pardesi Babu, where he helped Govinda earn money to marry a rich girl.

In Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Kaushik played the role of Kunj Bihari, known for his iconic dialogues like “Suniye toh sahi, rukiye toh sahi, baat kariye toh sahi.”

Another memorable character he played was Sharafat Ali in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, where his character’s unique antics stole the limelight once again.

Kaushik will be seen next in Emergency, directed by Kangana Ranaut. He will portray the late defense minister Jagjivan Ram, who was also a freedom fighter. The film revolves around the life of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
