Nandita Das’ movie Zwigato had a sluggish beginning at the box office, but then experienced an upward surge as reported by leading Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh. He confirmed there was an increase of 44.19%, though the 2-day collections remain low. Taking to Twitter, he appended figures and an image from the film featuring Kapil Sharma with his tweet that read: “#Zwigato witnesses an upward trend on Day 2 [+44.19%], but the 2-day total remains very low due to its biz on Day 1…Biz needs to have a miraculous turnaround/jump on Day 3 for a respectable weekend total…Fri 43 lacs, Sat 62 lacs. According to Taran Adarsh, Zwigato earned 42 lakhs on its opening day. Announcing Zwigato on Twitter, he said: “Released on 409 screens and shows, it had a dull day on Day 1… Word of mouth is positive, but it will need to convert into footfalls over the weekend… 42 lakh India business on Friday.”
At the box office on its release day (March 17), Kapil Sharma’s Zwigato clashed with Rani Mukerji’s Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway.

Even though the film earns modestly, critics have been impressed by it. The male protagonist is Manas Mahto (Kapil Sharma in a role that one would hardly believe is cut out for him), a food delivery boy who quits his job as a factory floor supervisor. Manas laments that he has been reduced to a machine by numbers, timings, and ratings. His soul-crushing routine hinges on numbers, timings, and ratings.”
In talking about Manas Mahto’s character, Kapil Sharma said he deeply resonated with it. When he first arrived in Mumbai, all of us did small jobs here and there. The product was transported by truck. At that time, there were no apps. Nandita ma’am told me all about the difficulties delivery guys face, and I was able to relate to that story a lot.”
